SHOUT OUT to Stedman Community Hospice and Brant County Paramedics Wish Program
This story came to me just before we went to press and I just had to share it with you all.
Recently, Stedman Community Hospice was able to help a patient attain their final wish with the help of the WISH Program. The Brantford Community Paramedic WISH Program is the passion project of paramedic, Andrew Wood. Andrew saw an opportunity to help serve the members of his community and has started the program to help provide personalized experiences to palliative and end-of-life-clients.

Stedman Community Hospice and Brant County Paramedics Wish Program
Last week, Gary Wright, a patient at Stedman Community Hospice was able to go back to his family home, a place he has not been to in months, due to hospital and eventual hospice admissions. Gary’s final wish was to go home, eat Chinese food and see his cats. This experience allowed him to do just that. Gary was accompanied by paramedics, Andrew and Curtis, and hospice PSW, Kim, who looked after Gary’s medical and physical needs to ensure that he and his family could enjoy their time together.
Stedman Community Hospice and the Wright Family would like to extend a very big “Thank You” to paramedics Andrew and Curtis, PSW Kim, the WISH Program and the rest of the Community Paramedics Team for their help in making Gary’s wish come true!

Young Rookie Livestock Auctioneer from Burford Wins Big at National Competition
Whenever I think of livestock auctioneering, Texas instantly comes to mind. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this vibrant tradition thrives here in Brant County, where 30 percent of the competitors are rookies! Young people taking an interest in auctioneering - how amazing is that!

Lars Deleeuw, a 19-year-old self-taught auctioneer from Burford, Ontario, charmed the crowd with his rhythmic chant at the 25th annual Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championship. With a tip of his cowboy hat, his voice danced from the speakers, captivating everyone present. This young prodigy didn't just participate; he swept the competition, winning both Rookie of the Year and Grand Champion titles at the Livestock Marketing Association of Canada gala on May 24.
The Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championship judges participants on their chant, rhythm, cattle business knowledge, and sale control. Deleeuw's unexpected victory highlights his exceptional talent and passion.
“I did not think I would win the whole thing,” said the humble auctioneer from Ontario Livestock Exchange. “I would have been just happy with the rookie buckle. Overall, it was a lot of fun, but this is a special moment.”
Discovering such remarkable talent in our backyard makes the livestock auctioneering world even more intriguing and exciting!
